Galanthus 'Faith Stewart-Liberty' is an attractive snowdrop which was found in a Buckinghamshire garden in the early 1980s by Mark Brown, and subsequently named for the owner of the garden. The monograph records that the garden was Miss Stewart-Liberty's at The Lea, and that it was just as well she gave him some bulbs, because the spot where it grew was built over soon afterwards. It was also the very first snowdrop Mark named, as Lyn Miles recalled in the Spring 2020 newsletter; when he stayed with her before that year's Study Day, he spotted straight away that the plant in her garden under this name wasn't the true one.

It is a vigorous plant which does very well in the garden here. The inner markings almost show a pair of 'eyes' on the inner segments, vaguely similar to G. 'Grumpy', but nowhere near as prominent or well formed. A very nice snowdrop for the garden and one which has been in cultivation for a significant amount of time.

Sources
Some of the background here comes from Bishop, Davis & Grimshaw, Snowdrops: A Monograph of Cultivated Galanthus; Freda Cox, A Gardener's Guide to Snowdrops; and Lyn Miles, 'From the Membership Secretary, ex Newsletter Editor!' (HPS Galanthus Group newsletter, Spring 2020).

(I like to describe the plants I sell as best I can from my own experience of growing them.  For the history of each individual snowdrop, I use books, websites and information from friends and others in the snowdrop world, some of whom have given me insight into information about cultivars that isn't readily available elsewhere.  Where information has come from a third party, I always try to make sure the source is credited.  Please note that not everything written about snowdrops in books or on websites is completely accurate, so if you spot anything on my website that you believe is wrong, I'd be really grateful if you would get in touch and let me know.  The same goes for any information you may have about any of the snowdrops on my website: if you'd be willing to share it with me and happy for me to publish it here, I'd love to hear from you.  I'm always open to changing the information on my listings, and I'll always credit any new sources.  My ultimate aim is for this website to be a trusted reference for snowdrops, so it is vital to me that the information is accurate.)
