Galanthus x valentinei 'Son of a Gun' has beautifully rounded outer segments, and when the flowers open they show off very bold inner markings that almost look like a face: two eyes, like single inverted commas, smudging down into the mouth, in a lighter green. This plant has very erect, sturdy scapes, and it's just a lovely plant.
It was selected and introduced by Paul Barney of Edulis Nursery, and his 2019 list describes it as a recent introduction and a form of G. x valentinei, the hybrid between G. nivalis and G. plicatus. It comes from a seeding population of G. x valentinei at Frilsham in Berkshire, the same population that gave Alan Street's 'Big Eyes', which explains the likeness. Paul says the two may not differ much, but they are definitely separate clones. Here in the North West it usually flowers in early February.
