Galanthus nivalis 'Kersen' is a lovely, neat snowdrop with a very unusual and attractive inner marking. Kersen is Dutch for cherries, and when you lift the flower you can see why: the green mark on each inner segment is a narrow V whose two ends swell into rounded blobs, just like a pair of cherries hanging from their stalks. The outer segments are clean white and nicely rounded, and the flowers sit on slender, upright stems.
It was picked out by Nicolas Top in 1996 from a large colony of snowdrops near Cologne in Germany, and apart from that charming mark it's very much a typical G. nivalis. That inner marking really does stand out as being very unusual, and I can see where the name came from. Here in the North West it flowers around mid-February.
