Galanthus nivalis 'Bungee' is, I believe, one of Phil Cornish's snowdrops, found at Colesbourne in Gloucestershire in 1995. Phil is a well-known galanthophile from Gloucestershire who has found and named many fine snowdrops over the years, including the much-admired 'Phil Cornish' itself.
The name comes from its extraordinarily long pedicel, which lets the flower drop well below the spathe, as if it were hanging on the end of a bungee rope! The flowers are slender and elegant, with long, narrow white outers and a neat green inverted 'U' at the tip of each inner segment. With so much 'give' in the pedicel, they swing about with the slightest movement of air, which is a real delight to watch. It's an early one too, flowering here in the North West from around early January.
Some of the background here comes from Freda Cox's book, A Gardener's Guide to Snowdrops. I've included it in good faith, but please treat it as a helpful guide rather than gospel.
