Galanthus nivalis 'Donaugold' is a lovely, gentle yellow snowdrop. The ovary is a soft, pale yellow and the inner segments carry a neat mark at the apex in the same mellow shade, which sits beautifully against the clean white outers.
It's a well-shaped, upright little plant with slender stems and nicely rounded flowers, and it makes a subtle, pretty addition to any collection of yellow snowdrops. It flowers here in the North West from late January into early February.
I believe it belongs to the Sandersii Group of yellow nivalis, and that it came from Wolfgang Kletzing in Germany. I understand the yellow tends to colour up better once the plant has settled in, so it's worth giving it a season or two.
