Galanthus 'Cowhouse Green' is a very attractive snowdrop which I would personally describe as 'semi-virescent'. I believe that, to be a full virescent, a snowdrop must have a fully green inner segment, along with green markings to the whole, or most of, the outers (ie. not just to the tips). 'Cowhouse Green' doesn't have the fully green inners; it, instead, displays an inverted 'U' or 'V' mark to the inner apex.

It's a lovely snowdrop that is believed to be a x valentinei hybrid, as it was originally found amongst a colony of G. nivalis and G. plicatus. It grows relatively tall and the green markings, covering the outers, are a delight. It was found by Mark Brown in the garden of Susan Cowdy at Rushmere, The Lee, in Buckinghamshire, and takes its name from Cowhouse Field, which lay nearby. This was in the late 1980s, which means that 'Cowhouse Green' has also stood the test of time in terms of being a good solid garden plant.

'Cowhouse Green' does very well in my garden and increases at a relatively good rate. One final point would be the claws. It has long and delicate claws once fully mature and these sometimes even show some of the inner apical marking, even when the flower itself is closed. A great snowdrop which, in my opinion, should be growing in every garden.

(I like to describe the plants I sell as best I can from my own experience of growing them.  For the history of each individual snowdrop, I use books, websites and information from friends and others in the snowdrop world, some of whom have given me insight into information about cultivars that isn't readily available elsewhere.  Where information has come from a third party, I always try to make sure the source is credited.  Please note that not everything written about snowdrops in books or on websites is completely accurate, so if you spot anything on my website that you believe is wrong, I'd be really grateful if you would get in touch and let me know.  The same goes for any information you may have about any of the snowdrops on my website: if you'd be willing to share it with me and happy for me to publish it here, I'd love to hear from you.  I'm always open to changing the information on my listings, and I'll always credit any new sources.  My ultimate aim is for this website to be a trusted reference for snowdrops, so it is vital to me that the information is accurate.)
