Galanthus 'Barbara's Double' is a later flowering snowdrop; early to mid February here in the North West. It is a dainty little double with beautifully tidy flowers, and it was found by E.A. Bowles in the garden of Lady Beatrix Stanley at Sibbertoft Manor, Northamptonshire, in 1944. It was named after Lady Beatrix's daughter, Barbara, who later became Lady Buchanan, and Freda Cox tells how the family's love of snowdrops carried on through Barbara's son, Sir Andrew Buchanan, and his wife at Hodsock Priory in Nottinghamshire. It is a snowdrop which has stood the test of time and performs excellently here. It has great vigour and will form a clump very quickly indeed.
