Galanthus ‘S. Arnott’ - I said on one of my previous listings that there are some snowdrops that just get overlooked, particularly when you have a lot in your collection. I don’t really feel like I overlook ‘S. Arnott’ – I enjoy it in the garden every year. It's an old stalwart and should, without question, be in every collection. In fact, for a lot of people, this is one of the very first snowdrops that leads them down the road of collecting/loving snowdrops. It’s a brilliant plant. It’s large, fragrant, vigorous and just a thing of beauty. It arose in the Dumfries garden of Sam Arnott, who passed it on to friends as ‘Mr Arnott’s seedling’; E.A. Bowles and H.J. Elwes both had it by the 1910s. It was given its proper name at Bowles’ request in 1951 and awarded the RHS AGM in the same year, so it has been a constant in cultivation for well over 100 years. I won’t say much more about this plant as there is a huge amount written about it online. If you haven’t got it, certainly buy one from me or someone else and put it in your garden. Put it somewhere near to the doors of your house to enjoy its honey fragrance during warmer winter days and see its beauty every time you go outside during the winter.
