Galanthus woronowii 'Elizabeth Harrison' is a snowdrop with a famous story. It appeared as a seedling in Elizabeth Harrison's garden in Perthshire, Scotland, around 2002, where it was spotted by nurseryman and snowdrop collector Ian Christie. It was the first yellow-marked G. woronowii ever found, and when a single bulb was sold on eBay in 2012 it went for £725, making it the most expensive snowdrop in the world at the time, with the proceeds going to the Harrisons.
Happily, it's much more affordable these days, and it's a beauty. The bright yellow ovary and yellow inner markings look wonderful against the glossy, apple-green leaves typical of G. woronowii, and it's no fussier to grow than the species. It flowers here in the North West from early to mid February.
