Galanthus elwesii ‘Ladybird’ - I adore this snowdrop. I think it just looks absolutely wonderful in a group. The outers become very large and rounded and just look magnificent when open. The green markings to the tips of the outers are delicate and very distinct. I believe that this plant was named by Phil Cornish after he found it in E.B. Anderson's garden.
'Ladybird' sits very high on my list of favourite snowdrops. It’s quite vigorous too which is always great. The plant isn’t as big as you’d expect for an elwesii and the flowers are large for the size of the plant. One other point would be, people always say that a quality of a good and unique snowdrop is whether you can ID it easily if you lost the label or looked at it from a distance. I believe this snowdrop fulfils both of those criteria - I don't think anyone would have any problem identifying 'Ladybird' from any distance. All in all, just a brilliant plant.
