Galanthus elwesii ‘Daphne's Scissors' is an older snowdrop; around 40 years in cultivation. The name comes from the fact that the inners look somewhat similar to a pair of scissors and that it was named by Daphne Chappell! I'm very fond of this snowdrop - it increases very well and is an extremely pretty plant. It shows green tips to the outers which is very nice too. We can all become very obsessed with the newest, most sought after and 'all singing and dancing' snowdrops but a lot of these older cultivars are wonderful things. I love the history behind them and the fact they've stood the test of time in many gardens over many years, letting us know above all else that, they're excellent garden plants. There's a lot to be said for that. 'Daphne's Scissors' does brilliantly in my garden and flowers early to mid-January here in the North-West.
