Galanthus 'Big Eyes' is a great snowdrop with flowers of very good substance. It shows a face on its inners, not too dissimilar to that of 'Grumpy'. However, the 'eyes' here sometimes seem to blend in with the 'mouth'. It is still a wonderfully attractive plant and one that I love to see in flower every season. It has relatively long claws which give a glimpse of the 'eyes', even when the flower is closed on a cold winter day.
'Big Eyes' is an Alan Street plant which was found in Berkshire in around 2009 amongst a colony of G. nivalis and G. plicatus; suggesting that this cultivar is x valentinei. It starts flowering here in the North West in mid to late January.
