Galanthus plicatus ‘Amy Doncaster’ is a very desirable snowdrop. It was originally found in 'Chandler's Ford', the Hampshire garden of the plantswoman Amy Doncaster, in the 1980s. It was subsequently given to John Morley to propagate in 1988 (when Amy Doncaster herself was 94 years of age). She asked him to name it for her as she found it exceptional and wanted it to be distributed.
The flowers of 'Amy Doncaster' are large and a very attractive shape. The tips of the beautifully formed and rounded outers are washed with an attractive green. The inners are mostly green. This snowdrop sits well above its foliage and makes a lovely clump. A good doer and a great addition to any snowdrop collection.
