To me, visually, it certainly suggests that it has G. elwesii in its parentage, and I'd possibly think the other parent was G. nivalis, but that is just my opinion.

The flowers are nicely shaped and finish with a point at the tip, with attractive claws, and the inner segments carry a very thin inverted 'U' or 'V' mark. In some years I've found it actually presents as two separate notches, either side of the sinus. It's quite a short plant and the flowers seem very large for its size, but they sit well above the foliage, and the whole plant balances well. It's a very beautiful thing, with a really attractive inner marking.

Not to be confused with 'Daphne's Scissors', 'Daphne's Maximus' is a plant that flowers here in the North West of England from mid to late January.

Sources
Some of the background here comes from Freda Cox, A Gardener's Guide to Snowdrops.
